A flock of cream sheep wanders right around a heathered grey crown, each one with a black face and four little black legs. Below them the turn-up cuff breaks into stripes of orange, red, blue and yellow, and on top sits a fat pom flecked with every colour in that cuff.
Hand-knit in Bolivia from 100% alpaca, with the sheep worked into the fabric stitch by stitch — not printed on, not stitched over the top afterwards. Turn it inside out and the flock is still there.
Alpaca is warmer than sheep's wool at the same weight, sheds moisture instead of holding it, and carries no lanolin, so it stays soft against skin that finds wool itchy. A fair joke on a hat covered in sheep.
This is the loud one. Where the Counting Sheep Beanie is quiet and traditional, the Wooly Wanderer is the hat a child picks out of the basket without being asked, and the one you can spot clear across a field.
There are matching mittens in the same flock.
