Handmade Felt Decorations Have Arrived: Woodland, Halloween & Christmas Favorites
Something new arrived at the farm boutique this week, and it is already my favorite corner of the shop. We have brought in a full range of handmade felt decorations β hand-cut and hand-stitched from wool felt by a fair-trade maker, with every character finished by hand. No two are truly identical, and they have that slightly wonky, wonderfully charming quality that only happens when a real person makes something.
They also happen to be the perfect scale for a farm gift shop: small enough to tuck in a pocket, sturdy enough to come out of the box year after year.

π Woodland Friends
This is the group I expect to sell out first. They suit the Pacific Northwest β mossy, foresty, a little bit storybook β and they work on a tree at Christmas or on a shelf all year round.
- Lennox the Fox β our woodland bestseller, and the one everyone picks up first
- Willow the Woodland Hedgehog β perched on a little red toadstool
- Cedric the Hare
- Sage the Forest Fairy
- Frankie the Foraging Fox
- Roberta the Rabbit
- Standing Red Toadstool β a sweet little accent piece for a mantel
π Halloween β Cute, Not Creepy
If you have young kids, you already know the problem with most Halloween decor: it is either scary or it is cheap plastic. These are neither. They are the kind of thing you actually want hanging in the kitchen doorway in October.
- Shadow the Bat
- Bee-Witched β a little bee in a witch hat, and yes, it is as good as it sounds
- Batty Catty
- Wizard Frog
Halloween pieces are a short season and we ordered conservatively, so if one of these is speaking to you, I would not wait until October.
π Christmas
I know it is early. I also know that the people who decorate seriously start thinking about the tree in September, and the ornaments that sell out are always the handmade ones.
- Nutcracker Ned and the Nutcracker Mouse King β buy the pair, they belong together
- Dasher the Reindeer
- Tree-Rex β a needle-felted Christmas dinosaur, and a guaranteed laugh when it comes out of the box
- Cosmo the Polar Bear
- Jolly Gingerbread Man
- Christmas Pudding Hare
- Christmas Black Sheep
- Ballerina
π Farm Friends
Naturally, I could not resist the farmyard ones. If you have been out to visit the alpacas, goats, sheep, rabbits, ducks or the mini donkeys, these will look familiar.
- Gloria the Sheep
- Puddles the Goose
- Howie the Honey Bee Bear
- Colin the Cat
- Party Pooch
- Harlow the Hare and Chick Norris β spring pieces, but too good to leave in the back room
π Keyrings β The Easiest Little Gift We Sell
These are our answer to βI need to bring something back for four people and I have twenty dollars.β They also make excellent stocking stuffers, teacher gifts and party favors.
- Alpaca Keyring β the obvious choice around here
- Party Alpaca Keyring
- Herbie Hare Keyring
- Triceratops Keyring β for the dinosaur kid in your life
Why We Chose These
We are picky about what we bring into the shop. Most of what we sell either comes from our own alpacas or from makers who work the way we would want to work ourselves. These felt decorations qualify on both counts:
- Genuinely handmade. Hand-cut, hand-stitched, hand-finished β not stamped out by a machine.
- Fair trade. Made by artisans who are paid fairly for skilled work.
- Wool felt, not plastic. Natural fiber, which matters to us for the same reason alpaca does.
- Cruelty-free. No animals harmed in the making of them.
- Built to last. These are keepsake decorations. Pack them away in January and pull them out again next year.
A Few Ways to Use Them
- Gift toppers. Tie one onto a wrapped present instead of a bow β the decoration becomes half the gift.
- Advent or countdown. Hang one a day on a garland through December.
- Nursery and kid rooms. Soft, light and safe to hang low where little hands can reach.
- Year-round shelf styling. The woodland set does not read βholidayβ at all.
- Hostess gifts. Pair one with a set of alpaca socks for a small gift that feels considered.
